Health Tips and Advices for Treat and Prevent Diseases
People health is continually threatened by ailments that commonly originate in nature and our society, in some cases seasonally, in other cases occasionally. This can occur in a particular and individual way, or in a more generalized way with pests and infectious epidemics, which can spread globally as pandemics.
Actions and Prevention against Risks and Health Problems
National and international health authorities, based on medicine and scientific research, establish health guidelines to apply in case of disease or risk thereof. With them you can act to manage correctly and solve the problems that arise, or prevent them when you are in a position to do so.
Protection against COVID-19
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a novel coronavirus (SARS-COV-2), which has unleashed a pandemic worldwide at the beginning of the year 2020. It causes flu-like symptoms, but due to the intensity of the disease and the possibility of causing respiratory complications, it can lead to death in people in the vulnerable group. It mainly affects the airways (nose, throat and bronchi), which is why they are the secretions produced, expelled in the form of tiny droplets suspended in the air (when coughing or sneezing), the means of contagion when transporting viruses. The prevention of contagion is the most effective way to stop the spread of the disease, for which protocols have been established. of basic actions that must be applied rigorously: rigorous hand washing, as frequent as necessary, the correct way to cough and sneeze. The use of soap in water is the most efficient and effective way to destroy the new coronavirus, since it disarms it due to the ability of the soap to dissolve a component of fat that holds it together.
These are the official health guidelines from national and international authorities, with pandemic priority, to block the spread of the coronavirus causing COVID-19:
- Apply protocols for coughing, sneezing and hand washing. 🖐🤚🧼💦💧
- Hands should be washed with soap and water, or disinfected with alcohol with a concentration greater than 70%.
- Body distancing, especially when socializing and working.
- Avoid body contact when greeting.
- Stay as long as possible at home, and go out only when strictly necessary.
- If you have to go out, avoid crowds.
- Avoid people with respiratory symptoms.
- Wash or disinfect your hands following the protocol, before and after touching objects that other people touch or use.
- Disinfect objects that people touch or use, regularly and after each use.
Sanitary Protocols against Infections
National and international health authorities* have established protocols for the correct and rigorous performance of basic actions on a personal level in daily life, which are critical for blocking the spread of infections:
* Costa Rican Ministry of Health (CRMH) and World Health Organization (WHO).
- Handwashing Protocol: WHO
- Hand Disinfection Protocol: WHO
- When to wash or disinfect your hands: WHO
- Coughing and Sneezing Protocol: WHO
Protection against Influenza
Influenza is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus (mainly type A or B), which, although similar, should not be confused with the common cold, due to the intensity of the disease and the possibility of causing complications that can even lead to death. It mainly affects the airways (nose, throat and bronchi), which is why they are the secretions produced, expelled in the form of tiny drops suspended in the air (when coughing or sneezing), the means of contagion when transporting viruses. Prevention of contagion includes basic measures: the protocol for rigorous handwashing, as often as necessary, and the application of the protocol of covering the mouth to cough and sneeze. In addition to the above, the annual application of a vaccine, which is prepared at this frequency, is highly effective to match the rapid evolution of influenzavirus.
Protection against Volcanic Ash
Volcanic ash is a fine dust, expelled by a volcano as the effect of a volcanic eruption, made up of solid particles that are fragments of the pulverization of volcanic rocks. Due to the nature of these rocks, which include crystalline minerals and volcanic glass, those tiny fragments are highly abrasive. Seen under a microscope, these particles have a completely irregular surface, full of sharp points, that cause serious damage to living tissues, on the cellular scale. Therefore, avoid exposing yourself to the entry of volcanic ash through the respiratory tract, avoiding affected areas as much as possible, and using protective masks when the wind spreads the damage over urban areas.
Protection against Ultra Violet (UV) Radiation and Sunlight
The Sun emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation that is 77% blocked by our atmosphere; But even so, the radiation that reaches the Earth's surface is enough to cause damage to the cells of living tissues, due to prolonged and excessive exposure. To avoid the risks of skin damage (which includes premature aging and cancer), you should avoid direct midday exposure and use the protection provided by blocking lotions.
Measures to protect against solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation:
- Wear a hat and protective clothing.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 hours before and after noon.
- Use sunscreen.
- Use a parasol or umbrella.
- When going out or working outdoors, take advantage of available shadows whenever possible.
